Registration:

 

Registration dates for the 2008 - 2009 school year are as follows:

 

Aug. 18     9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Aug. 19     No Registration
Aug. 20     9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Aug. 21     9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Aug. 22     9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Aug. 25     No Registration

 

2008–09 GUIDELINES

Children who are at least 5 years of age and under 21 years of age by September 1, 2008, and who reside in Alief ISD may attend Alief schools. For prekindergarten qualifications, please see below.

Currently enrolled students who change attendance zones must also register. In addition, any change of address within an attendance zone must be reported to district officials.

Students in elementary through middle school grades should register at the school in the attendance zone where the home is located.

Parents who are unsure of their attendance zone may call 281-498-8110, ext. 6610, 5940, or 2240. Attendance zone maps are available from the Community-School Relations Department (ext. 2240).

All high school students (grades 9–12) who are new to the district should register at the Administrative Support Facility, 14051 Bellaire.  Students are assigned by a random-draw system to Elsik, Hastings, or Taylor High School.

Students interested in attending Kerr High School may apply for admission following the draw assignment. (Call 281-983-8484 for information about Kerr, a smaller high school where students pursue personalized academic plans and work independently or in small groups with teacher support.)

Required enrollment documents:
State-certified birth certificate (PK/K must have an original birth certificate)
Most recent report card
Immunization records
Two proofs of residence (deed, lease, bank statement, and/or most recent utility bill)
Student’s social security number
Photo ID of parent or guardian
Note: A parent/legal guardian must accompany a student under the age of 18.

Bilingual program registration:
Bilingual (Spanish-English) education is available for qualifying students in prekindergarten through grade 6. Students must first register at their home school (the school in their attendance zone) before going to their assigned bilingual campus.

Prekindergarten:
Alief ISD’s prekindergarten program for the 2008-2009 school year will be offered at all elementary campuses.
To enroll in Alief ISD’s prekindergarten program, a child must be 4 years old by September 1, 2008, and meet one of the following requirements:
•  Inability to speak or comprehend the English language

•  Active Military Duty

              OR

•  Household income at or below the subsistence level as defined by the State Board of Education.
Children who do not speak or comprehend English will be tested during registration.
If qualifying by income, documentation of all sources of income to all members of the household must be submitted in addition to the required enrollment documentation listed above.

Dress Code Information:

 

The Kennedy Shared Decision Making Council has designated the following mandatory dress code for grades Kindergarten through Fourth. There is no mandatory dress code for pre-kindergarten. Our colors are strictly white, navy or red collared tops and navy or tan khaki bottoms/jumpers or jeans. Kennedy students are encouraged to wear college shirts on Mondays!

 

Boys:

  • navy pants or jeans

  • navy shorts

  • tan khaki shorts

  • tan khaki pants

  • navy, red or white collared knit short or long sleeve polos with no logos

  • navy, red or white button down the front short or long sleeve shirts with no logos

  • navy, red or white cardigans or sweatshirts with no logos can be worn over shirts

  • navy, red or white socks

  • no earrings allowed

Girls:

  • navy pants or jeans

  • navy shorts

  • navy skirts

  • navy jumpers

  • tan khaki shorts

  • tan khaki pants

  • tan khaki skirts

  • tan khaki jumpers

  • navy, red or white collared knit short or long sleeve polos with no logos

  • navy, red or white long sleeve turtlenecks with no logo

  • navy, red or white button down the front short or long sleeve blouses with no logos

  • navy, red or white cardigans or sweatshirts with no logos can be worn over shirts

  • navy, red or white socks

  • hair accessories must coordinate

  • girls need to wear shorts under skirts/jumpers on P.E. days

Requirements for Girls and Boys:

  • short, skirt and jumper lengths must be no shorter than 2" above the knee

  • no hats or caps in the buildings

  • clothes must fit properly (not too tight or too loose)

  • official scout uniforms or shirts may be worn with appropriately colored dress code pants, skirts or shorts

  • spirit shirts may be worn on Fridays

  • no high heels or sandals without backs

  • rubber-soled shoes on P.E. days

  • Kennedy students are encouraged to wear college shirts on Mondays!


Fourth Grade Program:

 

Please join our fourth grade students on Tuesday, December 16th at 7:00 p.m. for the fourth grade performance of The Nutcracker.  We look forward to seeing you!

 


Progress Reports:

 

Students will be receiving progress reports for the second nine weeks on Thursday, December 18th.

 


Winter Break:

 

Winter Break will be from December 22nd through January 2nd.  Have safe and happy holidays!

 


Student Attendance Day:

 

School will be in session on Friday, January 16th.  This day is a make-up day for Hurricane Ike.

 


Student Holiday:

 

School will be closed in observance of Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday on Monday, January 19th.
