Course Descriptions  

631/630 Band

 Prerequisites:

633/634 Concert Orchestra

Prerequisites:
     A. Grades 9-12
     B. Director approval
Credit: One to four (state)
    This class teaches fundamentals of string playing, plus emphasizes counting and reading.  I further develops technical skills.

635/636 Symphony Orchestra

Prerequisites:
     A. Grades 11-12
     B. Director approval
Credit: One (state)
    Advances technical skills and ability in string playing are covered in Symphony Orchestra. It also teaches study and performance of advanced orchestra literature.
    Additional requirements include solo recital, research study and/or theory/composition project.

637/638 Honors Symphony Orchestra

Prerequisites:
     A. Grades 9-12
     B. Director approval
Credit: One to four (state)
     Concert Band I stresses medium  to advanced technical skills and ability.  Counting, tone production, and sight reading are emphasized.  It is the second performing group.

642/640 Handbells

Prerequisites:
Credit:  (state)

643 Music Theory IA & IB

Prerequisites:
     A. Grades 9-12
     B. Prior musical training in a vocal or instrumental line
Credit: One  (state)
     Music Theory IA & IB teaches fundamental piano techniques.   It also emphasizes written and applied theory.

644 Music History IA & IB

Prerequisites:

645/641 Concert Choir

Prerequisites:
     A. Grades 9-12
Credit: One to four (state)
     Fundamental choral and vocal techniques are taught in Concert Choir.  Tone, balance, blend and sight reading are stressed.

646/647  Chorale

Prerequisites:
     A. Grades 9-12
     B. Director approval by audition
Credit: One to four (state)
     Highly advanced vocal/choral techniques are covered along with the study and performance of advanced choral literature.  This is the most advanced performing group.
