District 24-AAAA UIL Academic Committee

September 10, 2007

The committee representing UIL Academics for the 24-4A District met at the Lamar Consolidated HS Auditorium on September 10, 2007. All District Schools were represented by all Academic Coordinators and several speech and One Act Play directors.

Official requests for judge “no sees” will be submitted to Magda Mirelez, who will contact all the judges to submit paradigms, and those will be compiled and dispersed to all CX coaches by Magda Mirelez at meet.

Literary Meet

Debate prelims will be Friday night at Lamar and then out rounds will continue with the rest of speech on Saturday at Bay City.   Alternate Literary site is Bay City.

Host Schoo  l must order the medals and bring them to each site accordingly.

                       *E-mail poll during week of 9/10-9/14 concluded that moving OAP District to Thursday in Bay City prompted moving all Academics to Lamar CHS on Friday and Saturday.  

                       Debate will not start until Saturday am. 

                       Decision passed by vote of 5-2.  (Bay City and El Campo objected).

One Act Play

            Zone B –  3/25

District –  3/29 (E-mail poll during week of 9/10-9/14 moved OAP District to 3/27 in order to facilitate judges.  Decision passed by vote of 6-1.  (7 Lakes objected).

OAP Specifics

Judge Choices:  Judges for zones are still being secured.  The judge for District will be Deb Shaw.  The District Contest Director (Denise Kennedy) made at least 30 calls after the meeting to find judges.  All resulted in finding judges already maxed out with six contests.  The general consensus is that the planning meeting needs to be held closer to 8/15 as allowed by UIL guidelines so that School Directors and the Contest Director aren’t forced to scramble to secure contracts.
