All About Martin

Our AR readers are doing a great job.  We appreciate all the parents who set aside time each day to encourage reading in their home.  Turning off the TV and listening to a child read can be the best part of your day.

We believe that children who read will succeed in school and life.

Accelerated Reader is a self-paced computer testing-tracking program to encourage students to read.  As students read AR books they take a test on the computer and earn points.  The points earn them AR necklaces and medals that recognize their reading accomplishments.  We are even giving special prizes to encourage reading. Ask your child about those prizes.  Encouraging and supporting your child’s reading habit is a great way to help with their academic success.  The research shows that students who are readers do better in school than those who don’t read. Take time each day to listen to your children read or read to them.

Tips for Parents to help with reading

· Read aloud everyday

· Have your child read to you

· Discuss the books read with your child

· Take your child to the public library

Read all types of books—mysteries, humorous, poetry, nonfiction…etc.  Make reading fun!
