All About Martin

Our discipline program follows the strategies designed by Boys Town Behavior Program. It is an approach that is taught in the proactive positive manner. This program provides a neutral teaching time for students to learn appropriate behavior strategies in a warm supportive atmosphere.

Each week, the children take home a note describing the strategy they will be practicing. These strategies are introduced weekly through our video distribution system and taught in the classroom. This system recognizes positive behaviors and provides opportunities to teach appropriate behaviors when inappropriate ones appear.

Students carry a behavior chart that is taken home daily. On the back of the chart is a list of the skills along with the steps for how to follow each strategy. Inside each chart is a behavior sheet. It is divided into morning and afternoon. At the bottom of the chart is the list of rules that should be followed at all times. If a rule is not followed, an infraction mark is given in the form of a number, corresponding to the rule at the bottom.

Each day is a fresh start. The child begins the day with a hundred points. Eight points will be deducted from 100 for each infraction in order to calculate a daily grade. The child’s weekly grade is an average of the five days.

All faculty members are provided with the opportunity to recognize students displaying exceptional behaviors. These students receive a "Good for You" note that is placed in a weekly drawing. Those children whose names are selected are recognized on our Martin Morning Show. At the end of the nine weeks, we celebrate successful A/B behavior throughout the school.

This discipline system allows us to meet both the rights of the students to learn and the rights of the teachers to teach in a positive, healthy environment. Through the cooperation of parents and teachers, we are establishing positive behaviors in children that will last a lifetime.
