All About Martin

A.J. Martin’s Language Arts’ teachers have set a goal to provide students with a well balanced and challenging curriculum that will in turn provide all of our students with a love of reading and writing.  With this goal in mind the A.J. Martin Language Arts’ teachers remind us that the single most important influence for reading is being read to aloud.  Throughout the school day teachers provide multiple opportunities for children to be exposed to a variety of books through read aloud.  We are asking that you join us in helping to create environments where our children can enjoy books.  Here are a few tips for providing a reading environment at home:

1. Read to and with your child everyday for approximately 15 minutes.
2. Have your child see you as a reading model.

3. Provide a variety of materials such as books, magazines, mail, and cereal boxes.
4. Stimulate interest with questions, praise, and library visits.

5. Discuss stories with your child.

6. Keep reading time enjoyable and relaxed.

Whether your child is reading or beginning to read, we appreciate your support and encouragement as you work with your child at home. Together we can build a community of readers.
