History
Anticipation best describes the feeling of the 878 students
who eagerly walked through the doors of
Audrey Judy Bush Elementary on August 11, 1997.
Teachers and other staff members were well prepared to
provide the highest quality education for all the children
and were equally eager to welcome them. By the end of
December 1997, enrollment in Alief ISD’s twenty-first
elementary school of 104,500 square feet had already
grown to over 1,000 students.
The Bush Elementary theme for staff and students is
“T.E.A.M - Together Everyone Achieves More.” This
philosophy echoes the determination of a dedicated
staff who believes in the abilities and potential of
every child. We believe the role of classroom teachers,
academic specialists, and other support staff is to
enable students to contribute to our community in a
positive, productive, and rewarding manner. Each day
we strive to increase self-esteem and build character - qualities
that will last a lifetime.
The academic framework of our school is one that
supports and nurtures individuality. Whether math,
language arts, science, social studies, or fine arts, our
students are taught with a multisensory approach and
a variety of teaching/learning strategies and materials
to accommodate all learners. Students are motivated
and challenged daily in an environment that promotes
lifelong learning.
One of the most exciting features of Bush Elementary’s
semi-opened classrooms is the advanced technology
available. An integrated computer network and a
video delivery system enrich the academic program
of students in pre-kindergarten through fourth grade.
The Bush faculty recognizes that technology is a means
of obtaining new learning as well as preparing for the
twenty-first century. Students are highly involved in
the understanding and manipulation of technology
to enhance
learning, explore resources, conduct research,
and gain knowledge.
In collaboration with parents, community, and staff,
Audrey Judy Bush Elementary will create successful
and productive citizens of an ever-changing global society.
