A Vision for
Chambers Elementary
Teachers at Chambers create an atmosphere of trust and openness in the classroom which produces a stimulating exchange of ideas and mutual respect. They are critical thinkers and problem solvers who play a variety of roles when teaching. As a coach, the teacher observes, evaluates, and alters plans and strategies whenever necessary. As a facilitator, the teacher helps students link ideas in the content area to familiar ideas, to prior experiences, and to relevant problems. By encouraging self-directed learning and by modeling respectful behavior, the teacher effectively manages the learning environment so that optimal learning occurs.
Assessment is used to guide instruction. By using assessment as an integral part of instruction, the teacher responds to the needs of all learners. The teacher selects materials, technology, activities, and space that are developmentally appropriate and designed to engage interest in learning. As a result, learners work independently and cooperatively in a positive and stimulating learning climate fueled by self-discipline and motivation.
Together, learners and teachers take risks in trying out innovative ideas for learning. Critical thinking, creativity and problem solving spark further learning. Consequently, there is an appreciation of learning as a lifelong process that builds a greater understanding of the world and a feeling of responsibility toward it.
The administrators encourage the collaborative planning, implementing, assessment, and ongoing modification of strategies to achieve this mission. They creatively allocate resources such as money, time, facilities, technology, and volunteers. The administrators empower others not only by delegating authority, but also through team building, creative problem solving, and the development of consensus. They encourage self-management and facilitate the development of leadership among all members of the learning community. The administrators build relationships within this community and seek to enlarge it by including parents, businesses, neighborhoods, and other kinds of resources.
An atmosphere of openness and mutual respect fosters optimal academic, social and personal growth for all at Chambers. Within this environment, people not only share resources, but also a dynamic exchange of ideas.
A comprehensive plan for professional development is created. Time is scheduled for staff members to reflect, work together and to plan for their own professional growth.
The administrators are committed to a diverse learning community in which all members learn to live and work together while holding high expectations for the pursuit of excellence. Recognizing that a diverse population enhances the learning environment, they respect all learners, are sensitive to their needs and encourage them to use all their skills and talents.
The expectations are high at Chambers Elementary for all of us participating in the education of our youth. We believe that our students are capable of succeeding and reaching our goals and we believe that we will make the difference toward that success. As we nurture those in our school community, we will assist each other to reach our goals and we will celebrate our success together.
