The JV Boys’ Basketball squad opened the 2008-09 season with a 69-60 victory over La Porte. Offensively, the team was led by sophomores De Andre Hayden, Corey Marselleck, and Cederran Leonard and junior Ricardo Garcia. Defensively, the pressure was applied by sophomores Emmanuel Osama and Christopher Waller. The team will attempt to remain perfect as they travel to Cy Fair tomorrow, November 20, to play two games in the Cy Fair JV Basketball Tournament. Game times are 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm.
Congratulations to the following students that represented Alief Hastings Speech and Debate at the competition at Spring Woods HS.
Sophomores Jeanne Manalo and Hao Tran finished 2nd in Duet Acting and 4th in Duo Interpretation
Sophomores Nabiha Hossain and Tirhakah Love finished 7th place in Public Forum Debate
Freshmen Robert Jackson finished 1st in Prose Interpretation
Sophomore Tirhakah Love finished 7th in Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking
Sophomore Corbin Paulino finished 4th in Humorous Interpretation
Sophomore Hao Tran finished 1st in Humorous Interpretation

Johnathan Figueroa, a Hastings FFA student, showed this past Saturday at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Prospect Show and he placed second in his Breed class (Santa Gertrudis) and place 3rd overall in the show.
Last spring Hastings had two pieces named Gold Seal Winners at the State VASE competition.
The artists are Saudys Paguaga and Gracie Nguyen
These works of art have been on exhibit around the state ever since, but are now back home here at Hastings. You may now see the artwork on exhibit in the north lobby.
The cast of Hastings' second show for this year - Exhibit This! - has been announced. Congratulations to these deserving students!

Congratulations to Jordan Addison for making the Texas Music Educators Association's All-state Symphonic Orchestra. She is the first student in many years for Hastings to achieve this accomplishment. Jordan will be performing with the All-State Orchestra in February at the TMEA convention in San Antonio.
The top runner in Alief is Hastings' own Rogelio Trejo. Regelio will represent all of Alief, and especially Hastings, at the state Cross Country meet in Round Rock. Way to go Rogelio! View the Regional results here.

In preparation for the Houston Via Colori Street Festival Chalk Competition, students from 7 surrounding school districts competed for an area on Allen Parkway to participate in this contest in November. Artists will render a different composition from the initial qualifying piece.
Hastings is proud to announce that 3 of our students were recognized – 2 will compete & the 3rd was awarded an Honorable Mention.
